Holla Holla: A Display Font That Demands Attention—Wisely
Designer-to-Designer Practical Checks
- Test it in pure black on pure white—and then reversed (white on black). Some display fonts lose clarity or feel visually heavy in inversion. Holla Holla holds up, but spacing tightens; adjust tracking manually if needed.
- Render it at 14px, 16px, and 18px in actual UI mockups—not just in Figma’s preview pane. It’s not for interface text, but you’ll want to know exactly where legibility breaks down if you ever consider it for a subtle tagline or CTA button.
- Compare uppercase vs. lowercase usage. Uppercase Holla Holla is commanding and architectural. Lowercase feels more conversational—but loses some of its structural charm. Use case depends entirely on voice: luxury skincare? Uppercase. A playful podcast banner? Lowercase might land better.
- Review letter spacing and word spacing carefully. Default kerning is solid, but ‘AV’, ‘To’, and ‘Wa’ benefit from minor manual adjustment in headlines.
- Confirm commercial licensing. Holla Holla is a premium font, and while many marketplaces bundle it with standard licenses, double-check whether your use case—especially for digital products, printable design, or Cricut-based merchandise—requires extended rights.
